Step 1.

Take a square sheet, lay it flat on the table in a diamond position.

additional information

  • The corners of the square are: top, right, bottom, and left.

Step 2.

Form a vertical valley fold by bringing the left corner to the right corner.

Mark the fold well, then unfold.

additional information

  • Pay close attention to the fold at the top and bottom points.
  • Before unfolding, a triangular shape is obtained, with a vertical hinge edge on the left that connects two triangular flaps, whose points are on the right.
  • After unfolding, the vertical diagonal is indicated by a valley fold.

Step 3.

Turn the sheet from right to left.

additional information

  • The side that was facing up is now against the table.
  • The square is always in diamond position.
  • The vertical diagonal is a mountain fold (it forms a bump).

Step 4.

Make a horizontal valley fold by bringing the bottom corner up to the top corner.

Crease well, and let it fold.

additional information

  • The fold consists of two triangular flaps of equal area, single thickness, that overlap.
  • These two flaps are connected by a horizontal hinge edge at the bottom.

Step 5.

Make an oblique valley fold by bringing the right edge of the front flap from right to left down along the hinge edge.

Crease well, then unfold.

Step 6.

Make an oblique valley fold by bringing the left edge of the front flap from left to right down along the hinge edge.

Crease the fold well, then unfold.

Step 7.

Simultaneously bring the right and left edges of the front triangular flap from top to bottom toward the hinge edge, using the valley folds that run obliquely from the lower points.

The top peak transforms into a point that is pinched, in order to bring it vertically as the two edges approach the hinge edge.

additional information

  • When the two edges are aligned on the hinge edge, the formed point is oriented toward the ceiling.
  • We have just made a rabbit ear fold.

Step 8.

Fold the rabbit ear to the left, against the folding.

Step 9.

Turn the folding from right to left.

Then repeat the steps described in steps 6, 7, and 8.

Step 10.

Fold the rabbit ear to the right, against the crease.

Step 11.

Open the shape by tilting the front flap, from top to bottom around the horizontal hinge edge.

Rotate the shape a quarter turn counterclockwise, then flip the fold from right to left.

additional information

  • You obtain a very elongated vertical diamond shape.
  • The front side has, in the middle, two triangular flaps.
  • This is the intermediate version of the fish base.

Step 12.

Flip the fold from right to left.

additional information

  • The two middle triangular flaps are now underneath (table side).

Step 13.

Form a valley fold by bringing the top point down onto the bottom point.

additional information

  • You have in your hands the final version of the fish base.
  • It is a kite, equipped at the bottom with a long point made of two double-thickness triangular flaps, superimposed, connected by an internal horizontal hinge fold.
  • The upper part is a triangular shape built around two independent symmetrical triangles separated by a vertical slit.
