Step 1.

Take a square sheet, lay it flat on the table in a diamond position.

additional information

  • The corners of the square are: top, right, bottom, and left.
  • If it is two-colored, place the colored side facing the table.

Step 2.

Make a vertical valley fold by bringing the right point to the left point.

Crease well and then unfold.

Step 3.

Make a horizontal valley fold by bringing the bottom point to the top point.

Crease well and then unfold.

additional information

  • We have just marked the diagonals of the original square.
  • On the sheet, you can feel that:
  • The diagonals are valley folds (the fold of the diagonals forms a trough)
  • The intersection point of the diagonals is the center of the fold.

Step 4.

Form a horizontal valley fold, bringing the top point down to the center of the folding.

Crease the fold well, and leave folded.

Step 5.

Form a horizontal valley fold, bringing the bottom point up to the center of the folding.

Crease the fold well, and leave folded.

additional information

  • The folding is a hexagon whose top and bottom edges are horizontal.
  • The front lower and front upper flaps are single-layer triangles.

Step 6.

Form a horizontal valley fold, moving from bottom to top, the free tip of the front lower flap, to the middle of the top edge.

Crease the fold well, then return the front lower flap to its initial position.

additional information

  • when the free tip is in the middle of the top edge, the mountain fold of the front lower flap is aligned with the valley fold of the horizontal diagonal of the hexagonal flap beneath.

Step 7.

Form a horizontal valley fold by moving the free tip of the front upper flap from top to bottom, at the middle of the bottom edge.

Mark the fold well, then return the front upper flap to its initial position.

additional information

  • when the free tip is in the middle of the bottom edge, the mountain fold of the front upper flap is aligned with the valley fold of the horizontal diagonal of the hexagonal flap beneath.

Step 8.

Unfold the two front flaps to return to the initial square in diamond position.

Then, using the valley fold of the horizontal diagonal, fold the lower part over the upper part.

additional information

  • The folding consists of two simple-thickness triangular flaps connected by a horizontal hinge at the bottom.
  • The front flap has one vertical mountain fold and two horizontal mountain folds.

Step 9.

Create a horizontal valley fold by bringing down, from top to bottom, the lower mountain fold of the front flap along the hinge edge.

Make sure to crease the fold well, then unfold.

additional information

  • Only the front flap should be folded.

Step 10.

Create a horizontal valley fold by bringing down, from top to bottom, the upper mountain fold of the front flap along the lower mountain fold.

Make sure to crease the fold well, then unfold.

additional information

  • Only the front flap should be folded.

Step 11.

Fold the right-hand folding back to the left, and repeat the manipulations described in steps 9 and 10.

additional information

  • We have just formed an accordion.

Step 12.

Using the existing folds, fold the accordion until it takes a symmetrical shape.

additional information

  • The lower part of the folding is an accordion in the shape of a long horizontal trapezoid whose large base is on the 6 o'clock side.
  • The front flap and the back flap are: large triangular surfaces, single thickness, symmetrical and superimposed.
  • The free tip of these triangular flaps is oriented at 12 o'clock.

Step 13.

At the small base of the long trapezoid, make a horizontal valley fold, bringing the front triangular flap from top to bottom, against the folding.

additional information

  • the free tip of the front triangular flap is now oriented at 6 o'clock.
  • the surface of this flap has been reduced.

Step 14.

Turn the folding from right to left and repeat the maneuver from the previous step.

additional information

  • the surface of the front and rear flaps has been reduced.
  • the free tip of the single-layer triangular flaps is at 6 o'clock.
  • On the right and left of the front and rear flaps, there are 5 small triangles side by side, inverted, whose boundaries are marked by changes in thickness.

Step 15.

Locate the intersection point between: the right oblique edge of the front triangular flap,

and the lower edge of the accordion.

At the level of the marked point, make a vertical valley fold by bringing the right side of the accordion against the rest of the folding from right to left.

additional information

  • Make sure to crease the fold well and let it fold. The fold is made with all the layers of the folding.

Step 16.

At the lower right corner of the front accordion, make an oblique valley fold, bringing from left to right upwards,

The horizontal bottom edge of the front accordion, vertically.

additional information

  • The right part of the folding is a vertical trapezoid with the larger base on the right.
  • The oblique lower edge of this vertical trapezoid is also a hinge edge that connects it to a very small middle triangular flap.
  • The right vertical edge of the middle triangular flap is also a hinge edge that connects it to the rest of the fold against the table.

Step 17.

Slide a finger inside the fold from the left side of the vertical trapezoid.

Then bring the back part of the trapezoid to the right.

additional information

  • The vertical trapezoid has turned into a vertical hexagon, which could resemble a banana leaf.
  • Behind the banana leaf, the very small middle triangular flap has turned into a small triangular pocket, with a horizontal opening on the 12 o’clock side.
  • The vertical diagonal of the hexagon is a mountain fold.
  • The tip of the banana leaf, pointing to 12 o’clock, is a small single-layer square in a diamond position.
  • on the front side of the banana leaf, a vertical slit overlaps with the main diagonal which is in mountain fold.

Step 18.

Straighten the banana leaf vertically, (tip towards the ceiling)

Slide a finger along the slit to separate the right and left edges,

Then continue the movement until bringing the banana leaf back against the table.

additional information

  • the tip of the banana leaf is now pointing at 6 o'clock.
  • the height of the banana leaf has been reduced, while its width has increased.
  • on the front side, there are still two small flaps.

Step 19.

Spread the right and left flaps of the front side, and bring the entire banana leaf towards 12 o'clock.

additional information

  • the height of the banana leaf has been further reduced, while its width has increased.
  • at this stage, the right part of the fold looks more like a boat hull (several layers), topped with a sail (single layer)
  • it is a pentagon with a horizontal bottom edge and a vertical mountain fold symmetry axis.

Step 20.

Bring from bottom to top towards the left, the right part of the horizontal edge, along the vertical symmetry axis of the pentagon.

additional information

  • the existing diagonal fold is used.

Step 21.

Bring from bottom to top towards the right, the left part of the horizontal edge, along the vertical symmetry axis of the pentagon.

additional information

  • the existing diagonal fold is used.
  • You can always find the single-layer square in a diamond position at the top of the right part.
  • The entire right part also resembles a square in a diamond position.

Step 22.

Flip the folding from right to left, and tilt the long right part of the shape vertically.

additional information

  • The long multi-layered point is facing the ceiling.
  • The front face of the square in a diamond position is smooth.
  • The vertical diagonal of the square is a valley fold.

Step 23.

Remove the folding from the table and hold it in your hands so that:

additional information

  • The long point is oriented toward your torso.
  • The single-layer triangular flaps are facing the table.
  • The long point is perpendicular to the square flap in a diamond position.
  • The thumbs are on each side of the long point, the pads against the small triangles on the lower part of the front face of the diamond-position square.
  • The pads of the index fingers are against the flaps of the back face of the diamond-position square.

Step 24.

Make a valley fold by bringing the lower right oblique edge of the diamond-position square along the right vertical hinge edge of the long point, while allowing the right back flap to return, without folding it.

Step 25.

Make a valley fold by bringing the lower left oblique edge of the diamond-position square along the left vertical hinge edge of the long point, while allowing the left back flap to return, without folding it.

additional information

  • what was previously a square in a diamond position is now more complex in shape, but the right and left parts are still symmetrical.
  • Going from bottom to top, against the thumbs, on each side of the front face of this complex shape:
  • A multi-layer triangle with a horizontal mark
  • A multi-layer square with a diagonal marked as a mountain fold
  • A single-layer triangle whose free tip is pointing towards the ceiling

Step 26.

Turn the folding from right to left.

  • The large single-layer triangular flaps are facing the table.
  • The pads of the index fingers are against the back face, in contact with the small squares with marked diagonals.
  • the front face looks like three overlapping kites, with the one in the middle covering part of the other two.

Step 27.

By pushing your index fingers toward you, tilt the upper two-thirds of the complex shape from top to bottom.

additional information

  • on the back face, the pads of the index fingers are in contact with two overlapping triangles.

Step 31.

Make a valley fold obliquely, bringing from top to bottom towards the left, the horizontal edge of the front left right triangle, along the hypotenuse.

Step 32.

Make a zig-zag fold through all the layers of the triangle held between the thumb and index finger of the right hand.

additional information

  • For this, we first make a mountain fold by folding the free tip of the triangle backward, then a parallel valley fold by bringing the free tip of the triangle upward, toward the ceiling.
  • We have just shaped the animal's left ear.

Step 33.

Form a zig-zag fold through all the layers of the triangle held between the thumb and index finger of the left hand.

Step 35.

Form a horizontal valley fold by bringing the tip of the lower point from bottom to top against the fold to represent the nose.

Step 36.

Fold back the small tips below the ears to round the head.

Step 37.

Hold the folding with the head to the left and the single-layer triangular flaps toward the table.

Step 38.

Form a diagonal valley fold from right to left downward, bringing the upper edge of the tail along the vertical axis passing through the free tip of the large single-layer triangles.

Firmly crease the fold then unfold.

Step 39.

Locate the intersection point between the right oblique edge of the single-layer triangles and the animal's tail.

Form a vertical valley fold at the marked point, bringing the right part against the folding.

Firmly crease the fold then unfold.

Step 40.

Transform the oblique fold so that it becomes a mountain fold on the front and back faces.

Step 41.

Transform the vertical fold so that it becomes a valley fold on the front and back faces.

Step 42.

Slide a finger inside the fold, and using the oblique mountain folds and the vertical valley folds, push the beginning of the tail inside the animal's body to form a broken line between the back and the tail.

additional information

  • the lower part of the large single-thickness triangles is now aligned with the lower part of the tail.
